Jack Harper (BBA ’93) and his wife, Shelley (BBA ’92), met while each was earning a business degree at Baylor. Jack spent his first few years after graduation working in finance before the couple moved to Shelley’s hometown of Midland, and Jack entered the oil and gas industry.
The rest, as they say, is history. In May, Harper was promoted to executive vice president at ConocoPhillips, one of the world’s largest independent oil and gas companies. Specifically, Harper now oversees the company’s operations in the lower 48 states — the largest segment of ConocoPhillips’ portfolio.
“Jack is a proven leader who will ensure our company’s success,” says ConocoPhillips chairman and CEO Ryan Lance. “He brings tremendous experience and a true passion for this business, and I look forward to seeing him drive efficiency and value across Lower 48.”
Before joining ConocoPhillips, Harper was president of Concho Resources, which was acquired by ConocoPhillips in 2020. Over his career, he’s worked in various capacities relating to finance, corporate planning and strategy, capital markets, and business development.
A member of Student Foundation during his time at Baylor, Harper has remained connected to Baylor over the years — returning to speak at Hankamer School of Business events, financially supporting scholarships and other Baylor efforts, and serving on the Give Light national steering committee. Most recently, he began a three-year term on Baylor’s Board of Regents just this month.
