Freddy’s new CEO is also a Baylor Bear (in fact, a Teaff-era linebacker)

Baylor University/Faculty issued the following announcement on Jan. 20

Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers has almost 400 locations nationwide — including one just across I-35 from campus. It’s a popular stop among students and staff for burgers, shakes and custard, but its proximity is far from the restaurant’s only tie to Baylor.

Freddy’s new CEO is a Baylor graduate and former linebacker who built a career in food and business after his time in green and gold. Chris Dull (BSEd ’95) was tabbed as the chain’s new chief executive officer last spring, providing leadership for the fast-casual restaurant chain. Dull takes over for the company’s co-founder, and he credits his time at Baylor for playing a big part in his success.

Baylor, he told the Lariat, is “where (my) relationship with the Lord started,” and it was Baylor coaches who “taught me how to be a man, how to grind and how to be humble.” He played linebacker for four seasons under Grant Teaff, and even named his son after former assistant coach and Baylor legend Cotton Davidson.

Dull earned an education degree at Baylor, then embarked on a career in the restaurant industry after graduation, providing leadership for companies like Marble Slab Creamery and Global Franchise Group (owners of such brands as MaggieMoo’s and Great American Cookies) for over two decades before moving to Freddy’s.

One of the perks to being the CEO? Getting to indulge a linebacker’s appetite for his favorite order. As he visits restaurants throughout the chain, Dull gets to repeatedly enjoy his favorite meal (all in the name of research and quality control, of course): a Freddy’s original triple with mayonnaise and tomatoes, onion rings, and a Diet Dr Pepper.

Sic ’em, Chris Dull!
