There were 428 African American students enrolled in Mexia ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 5.9% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Mexia ISD schools welcomed 1,864 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, African American students comprised 23% of the student body to be one of the most represented ethnicities in the district.

Mexia ISD roughly covers schools within Limestone County and has a main office in Mexia.

Among the five schools in Mexia ISD schools, Mexia High School recorded the highest enrollment of African American students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of 125 students.

Texas is found to be one of the least-educated states in the U.S. A study from WalletHub ranked Texas 41st out of 50 states in terms of the quality of the educational system and how successful students were.

More than 5.4 million students are enrolled in public schools across Texas. Nearly one million of them live in rural areas where options for local public schools are few and far between.
