Former Navarro Bulldog and Baylor Bear infielder Esteban Cardoza-Oquendo ia joining Brett Doe's Dodge City Community College baseball staff.
Cardoza-Oquendo played 107 games for the Baylor Bears after transferring from Navarro, where he was part of two conference championships and a third-place finish at the 2019 Alpine Bank JUCO World Series finish under coach Matt Podjenski.
"First off, I'm excited to step into the coaching world," Cardoza-Oquendo said in a press release. "Baseball has been a part of my life for the better part of 20 years and I've been blessed to be able to play the game for that long. I'm looking forward to pass along all my knowledge while continuing to learn about the game and helping players reach their goals and turn their dreams into reality."
For the last three seasons, Cardoza-Oquendo anchored third base for Baylor Former, finishing with a .251 batting average, 89 hits, 52 runs, 19 doubles, 53 runs batted in, and 35 walks. He earned Academic All-Big XII First-Team honors in 2021 and 2022. The Richardson High School product earned First-Team All-Region XIV and All-East Conference accoolades at shortstop when he played for the Bulldogs in 2018 and 2019.
Cardoza-Oquendo has some teaching experience at camps, working as an instructor for players of all ages.
"First and foremost, I hope to bring energy and devotion to the players that allows them to develop into great young men and great baseball players. Second, I hope to help set a standard of excellence on the defense that sets Dodge City apart from the rest of the conference and help shape the offense into one of the most efficient offenses in the conference. Lastly, I hope to bring another set of eyes on the recruiting trail to help bring the best talent to Dodge City," said Cardoza-Oquendo.
