The House of Representatives has passed the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, a measure designed to fund the federal government at current discretionary spending levels through the end of the fiscal year. This move aims to support President Trump's economic growth initiatives.
Congressman Ellzey emphasized the necessity of this legislation, stating, "There was no alternative. Not passing this legislation would undo all the progress made since President Trump took office in January." He highlighted that the act ensures full government funding for critical areas such as national defense, military pay raises, border defense, infrastructure projects, and biomedical research without affecting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.
The act allocates an additional $6 billion for defense spending while reducing non-defense expenditures by $13 billion. This adjustment results in a decrease in total federal spending for fiscal year 2025 compared to fiscal year 2024.
Ellzey further commented on the financial adjustments: "With the support of the President, House Republicans cut spending by $13 billion and increased our defense spending while maintaining vital government programs the American people count on." He expressed pride in supporting this legislation alongside his Republican colleagues and committed to ongoing efforts to reduce waste and save taxpayer dollars.
