Congressman Jake Ellzey expressed support for the recently signed Laken Riley Act, a legislative measure aimed at protecting American communities from criminal illegal immigrants. The law mandates Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to issue detainers and assume custody of illegal aliens who have committed serious crimes such as theft, assault on law enforcement officers, or offenses resulting in death or severe injury.

"The tragic death of Laken Riley is a reminder of why we must enforce our immigration laws," stated Ellzey. "This legislation ensures that criminal illegal aliens are held accountable and that our communities are protected. The federal government has a responsibility to ensure that dangerous individuals are not allowed to walk free."

The act seeks to enhance immigration enforcement by requiring ICE to detain individuals charged with or convicted of serious crimes. Furthermore, it grants states the legal standing to challenge the federal government if it fails to enforce these regulations.

"With the passing of the Laken Riley Act, Congress is sending a clear message: we will not allow criminal illegal aliens to threaten our safety," continued Ellzey. "And we are taking action to protect our families and communities. This legislation is an important step in securing America’s future and protecting our people. I am proud to see it now become law."
