Yesterday, Congressman Ellzey joined forces with Representative August Pfluger to co-sponsor a significant piece of legislation designed to safeguard American taxpayers' funds. The legislation, introduced in collaboration with Representative Michelle Fischbach (MN-07), employs the Congressional Review Act to overturn President Biden’s decision to allocate taxpayer subsidies for illegal immigrants' healthcare.
The recent expansion of federally funded benefits, which includes healthcare under the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), to illegal immigrants by the Biden administration contravenes federal statute. This move directly opposes President Barack Obama's assurances during the inception of Obamacare in 2009 when he unequivocally stated that the reform efforts would not include insurance coverage for illegal immigrants.
Under President Biden's directive, an estimated $300 million per year would be redirected to provide government-subsidized health insurance to approximately 100,000 illegal aliens. This action not only disregards the law but also imposes an unfair burden on American taxpayers.
“As a staunch advocate for upholding the rule of law and ensuring that taxpayer funds are used responsibly, I stand firmly against this misuse of resources,” Ellzey stated. “Providing healthcare benefits to illegal immigrants at the expense of hardworking American taxpayers not only undermines the integrity of our legal immigration system but also sets a dangerous precedent. Together with Representative Pfluger and Fischbach, I am committed to fighting for the interests of American taxpayers and preserving the integrity of our nation's immigration laws.”
