Dawgs Deny Angelina In Region XIV Opener, 67-55

Sophomore transfer guard Braelon Bush scored a team-high 19 points Wednesday as Navarro opened Region XIV conference play with a 67-55 win over the Angelina Roadrunners.

Coach Grant McMillian's Bulldogs (8-3, 1-0) won their fifth consecutive game, while coach J.J. Montgomery's Roadrunners slipped to 5-4 overall.

Bush, a Silsbee product that transferred here from McNeese Srate, cracked double-figure scoring for the ninth time this season. Navarro raced out to a 37-21 halftime lead, but the Roadrunners made a determined comeback within six points (61-55) with 1:03 remaining.

Bush, who hit 7-of-8 free throws in the game, nailed key free shots during the final 63 seconds when Angelina desperately was trying to foul.

Navarro, as a team, connected on 14-of-20 shots from the charity stripe.

Zane Nelson added 13 points from 5-of-9 shooting for NC.  Jayshawn Moore pitched in 11 points, grabbed four rebounds, handed out three assists, stole two passes and blocked two shots.

Navarro blocked a season-high 15 shot attempts, led by four apiece from Addarin Scott and R.J. Moore.

Navarro plays a 2 pm Saturday Region XIV game against Coastal Bend (5-5/0-1) at the Peter S, Maresek Physical Education Center in Beeville.
