Anderson County and Henderson County were among the recipients of $2.1 million in public safety grants awarded to agencies across East Texas.
“Every year, the Office of the Governor solicits criminal justice funding opportunities which are invaluable to the region,” East Texas Council of Governments Public Safety Director Stephanie Heffner said in a post on the ETCOG website. “Criminal justice funding helps multiple agencies like law enforcement, local nonprofits, district attorney's offices, juvenile probation departments, and victims of crime. This funding is essential to enable our law enforcement to serve East Texas better.”
The ETCOG website states Anderson County received more than $111,000 in funding for crime victims assistance, almost $16,000 for justice assistance and nearly $60,000 to address violence against women. The Henderson County HELP Center received nearly $204,000 in funding for crime victims assistance.
The East Texas region was approved for 29 public safety grants.
